In a nutshell, I love Britney Spears but I’m truthful and not a fanatic about what goes on in her life, nor do I live in denial about how hard her life must be. If you like to follow Britney Spears news but also enjoy all the pop culture that surrounds her then you’ll love this site.

I’m just a writer by trade who happens to be very interested in Britney Spears. Don’t ask me why because I cant really tell you. All I know is I love her, often feel bad for her, appreciate her struggles and determination and adore her music.

So where did the name Poor Britney come from? I’m an unlikely Britney supporter. I didn’t start listening to her music or following her until 2006. I’m a mother of a 20 year old and I’m in my forties. Not your average Britney fan, I’d say. Or maybe I am. Maybe there are lots of me out there who would like to have a place to talk about her without feeling attacked.

I found that fan sites just did not offer what I was looking for when it came to Britney Spears news. Short of following her on paparazzo websites, there were few places to discuss her in a mature manner and with interesting dialogue. Fan sites tend to be filled with trolls and spammers and that really ruined the experience for me. I hope PoorBritney.com is a place where adults can discuss the girl that means so much to them for a variety of reasons.

My admiration of Britney came out of sadness and compassion. I started PoorBritney.com at the crux of her troubles in early 2007 when she was being blindsided by bad influences for whom I wont name. I felt compassion and sadness for her and she seemed helpless. I’d watch all the media frenzy around her, the paparazzi hounding her to death, her late night car rides to nowhere, her endless stream of hanger ons’, and what I discovered was not a spoiled empty drugged out celebrity, but a sweet charming girl who was in dire straights.

I watched her sliding down a slippery slope every day and I’d listen to people bashing her and calling her a druggie or a trainwreck, and from moment one, I never saw that. I never thought Britney was a drug addict or a fame-whore, and while the media fed on her like hungry sharks, I’d just sit and stare and think “poor girl, poor Britney”. She’s all alone in this frenzy and I could see right away that it was more of a mental issue and not drugs. I saw the anxiety, the panic attacks, the dead look in her eyes and I knew she was in trouble and it drove me to start Poor Britney.

That’s where the name came from, not because I dislike her. People took advantage of her weakness and that’s the idea behind the name. Britney engages me because she is real. She doesn’t hide her emotions behind her celebrity and she pulls people in with her realness. That cannot be said for many celebrities. Britney is real, flaws and all. People Identify with her. She tries to do the best she can.

I think a lot of people don’t understand mental illness. Not that Britney is classified “crazy” but she clearly deals with lots of angst, anxiety, depression and sadness. You can see it on her face a mile away, behind the smile. I think she was so desperately wanting to be a good mother, a good wife, an entertainer, but it was all too much too fast and it broke her.

I probably cant tell you my deep affection for Britney. She fascinates me, she makes me feel sad, breaks my heart, entertains me with great music, and she makes me laugh. She’s incredibly funny and real. I simply adore her, regardless of her struggles and probably because of them. She affects me like no other. I’m always moved by her music and her little face brings me joy. I simply have to write about her.

I despise the people that took advantage of her and I love her father for bringing her back from the brink. Without him, I don’t think we’d have her right now. I am grateful for him in so many ways, regardless of what peoples’ opinions of his family may be. He stepped up when it mattered and when nobody else would. He certainly saved her life.

Britney has been through so much and came out the other side a better person. Her dad is a hero to me and I know deep down he wants only the best for her. It was a horrible two years for her but I feel now she is getting stronger every day. I have my place in her world because someone needs to speak about the positive things that are going on in her life and the hard work she is putting in.

Britney continues to be a target for a few websites that like to spread hate. To them my reply is simple. Look at her in 2007-2008 and look at her now. I know she’s going to have a long road of recovery but I have every bit of faith that she’ll come out on top as long as she can keep her focus and know whats important.

I think she’s on a journey of self discovery and I’d like to be there when she reaches it. She will come through like a karate kid. I support her through and through.

I’m a funny person by nature who lives in a Mad TV world so of course I LOVE any Britney artwork, humor, pop culture reference, etc. If you are offended by this, you shouldn’t be. It comes from the highest respect of what she means to the world of pop culture and art.

Dollface captures my interest like no other. I cant explain it and I’ve given up trying to. All I can say is I hope the best for her, I appreciate the joy she brings me through her music and I feel she is a compassionate loving person who has a lot to deal with. These are the reasons I like to write about Britney Spears and I hope you come along.
