Dr. says Brit was seriously disturbed

Filed under : BRITNEY NEWS - GOSSIP

A doctor who briefly dealt with Britney Spears while she was forcibly committed in Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles has broken his silence on the affair and expressed concern over Britney’s current regime.

Dr Martin Chan was working in the Psychiatric ward of the hospital as an on duty GP when he was temporarily asked to observe Britney.

‘She was totally imbalanced and seemed seriously disturbed’ Chan noted.

‘I don’t believe for one minute that such systemic and at that time serious embedded mental issues could have gone away in less than two years. Now she is back on the grueling concert circuit and this seems highly irresponsible and dangerous. There is no way her emotional condition could is really yet strong enough for this regime’ Noted Chan who now works in NYC.

‘I fear if she is allowed to continue touring her she will again experience a breakdown. She might end up being the next Michael Jackson: this could kill her. We should not allow that to happen again’ concluded Chan.

Chan, an immigrant from China also commented that ‘In China we give our celebrities more space and treat them with more humanity’.

i’m kind of surprised you posted this coming from a website that does stores on UFOS and paranormal activity. there is patient doctor confidentiality any professional legit doctor would never had made these comments to the press.

these claims might not be far fetched considering how she acts on her time off when not working but still the source is questionable.

About a year and a half ago, I went through a really, really bad period. Many people would say I was crazy, losing it, and disturbed! For me, it was about changing my routine, getting structure back and just taking it a day at a time. It IS possible to turn your life around in a year and half / two years, it really is, so this doctor really shouldn’t have commented having only analysed her at her lowest.

Oh, news is news so I understand why you posted this.

Regardless of the origins of this report, its substance raises important questions in regard to Britney’s long-term welfare. At one point during her dark period, Britney had NINE different doctors with varying opinions on the medication required. The blessing of the conservatorship is that it has brought medical consistency to the situation, and the tour is all part and parcel of returning Britney to a routine & identity that brings stability.

The wider concern has to be this talk of ending the conservatorship. Britney has only ‘coped’ within the structure of a gruelling tour and has not yet proved she is ready to stand on her own two feet away from the stage, out of the spotlight, and in ‘normal’ life. No true and proper evaluation of Britney can be measured until and unless she’s returned to everyday life.
As I’ve explained in my biography, the persona & act may be back but what about the person inside? And not even her camp can know that answer, because Britney’s biggest challenge commences as a person when this tour ends.
Surely the conservatorship’s remit was not solely about ensuring her endurance and survival during the tour??!!!

Patient-doctor confidentiality, anyone? Doing the tour must me hard but she has taken days off, well weeks off. She seems happy, enjoying her life, her kids. What would she do if she stays at home? She is the type of person who likes to go out (Rite Aid, Gas Stations: The Pink Wig Era) and I think she needed to be with other people, traveling the world, going back to the top, being on her own and taking responsibilities while doing all of those things.

How refreshing to see you post here, Steve. I bought your book on Monday, and it’s very insightful and well written. Thank you for taking all that time and energy to write it, your passion shines through.

In some ways, I believe this tour was not only Britney proving to those around her that she CAN still do it and a way for her to show her worth to the courts in light of the conversvatorship, but she’s actually relishing moments on stage again.

In London, her face lit up when she locked eyes with the group I was with near the front and she saw how excited we were to see her, cheering her on. She absolutely loved it. I was so taken aback by her strength and sheer persona a few feet away from me, and when she looked at again at us, I had to look away. In a strange way, I almost felt guilty taking a photograph later on with my phone. It felt wrong.

You can’t grow without changing, and a lot of fans just don’t appreciate how much Britney is growing every day. This is the first tour she’s had such control over, it’s HER baby, it’s the music she wanted, it’s on her terms, and the passion she is putting into it night after night, well, that says so much for how she is improving mentally. Time will tell how she can translate this passion from stage to her private life once the tour ends, but hasn’t that always been something she’s never quite worked out?

We have to wait, watch and hope.

if Britney weren’t healed she wouldn’t have that tour, also she needs to distract
and I dont think pepaw will let her to kill herself

    thats my poor opinion

PS. Steve Dennis I want your book!! but I cant buy it bc I dont live in UK

  8. Mindy says:

All really interesting comments. I have my reservations about whether a doctor would break confidentiality like that. That would be extremely irresponsible, so if he truly did then that’s awful. I’m really nervous about when the tour ends because there is no way her life will be this structured when off tour. And as we all know, Britney seems to loathe too much structure. I’m afraid of those nights when she gets restless and she doesn’t have her babies with her (they’re at Kevin’s) and she starts to roam the city streets at night. I also will get really worried if we start seeing tons of different people in her life, like random new friends. I really hope she has matured during this ordeal and has learned how to set boundaries for herself. And I hope she stays on her medication when it is no longer court ordered. Well noone can really know for sure until she is given the chance.

  9. Steve Dennis says:

@Carl,I think you’re absolutely right about how alive & invigorated Britney feels when on stage. Performance/stage is when she comes into her own, and truly gets ‘in the zone’. As you know, this is not some convenient phrase – it’s a state of mind for her; a truly spiritual experience. I can only imagine what this ‘lock on’ zone looks like from your vantage point. It is in performance that she feels her strongest, safest and most secure. In regard to how she functions outside of this mode – and this will be the most telling time when the tour ends – we will, as you say, have to watch, wait and hope.

I’m so glad you liked the book. I so desperately wanted people to understand the human story behind Britney, not just the musical/pop story. My passion is no different to that of people like you or PoorBritney. We’re all on the same page but thank you for your kind words.

@myrthala – not being able to buy the book is proving frustrating for many American fans but we’re working on US publication. In the meantime, there’s always amazon.co.uk but I do understand that it costs to import. I hope US publishers wake up to this imperative soon!! Best wishes, Steve

  10. pussy poppin says:

yes the most crucial part will happen once the tour ends. somehow my gut feeling tells me she wont be able to endure it. we’ve seen how she acts on barely two weeks vacation within the conservatorship just imagine that long term. but then that means she’s not capable of functioning on her own and that’s a horrible thing to face, because then who would take on the permanent responsibility of that? i’ve heard and i wonder if you’ve heard the same, steve, that her father wants out and wants to move back to louisiana to live his simple life?

  11. pussy poppin says:

I also think what’s the rush to get out? why can’t they wait a couple of months until the tour is over to see how she settles into a non touring life. maybe she’s insisting on it to end and her father has no other recourse but to let her go?

  12. Steve Dennis says:

@pussy poppin, I feel the one thing very few people have understood is the immense pressure that Jamie Spears himself is under, and has been under. Here is a man who is a recovering alcoholic who is trying to keep himself on the straight & narrow as well as his daughter – and all under an inhuman spotlight. From those that know him, yes, I’ve heard he wants to return to a normal life (whatever that is) but not at the expense of his daughter’s welfare. He will bust a gut to make sure he does right by her. It wouldn’t surprise me if the terms & restrictions of the conservatorship were loosened whilst some element of control/guardianship was maintained. At least, that’s my hope within the collective hope that everyone does the right thing by Britney the person, as opposed to Britney the act.

  13. Melanie says:

I dont doubt for a minute that she was seriously disturbed and probably still is to some degree. She still wont speak in public and appears awkward when anything outside the routine is asked of her. I fear for her all the time because my gut tells me she is not well, and that is so sad.

  14. myrthala says:

    thank you @Steve!!

  15. pussy poppin says:

steve, is there a possibility this conservatorship hearing is just for show, a way to please her since she wants out? i’m sure the doctors if forced to testify would see what fans see, right? i mean i don’t think it’s a bunch oversensitive fans noticing her behavior patterns like when she has off time.

  16. Steve Dennis says:

@pussy poppin, I don’t believe the conservatorship to be for show and, let’s remember, it is a legal process overseen by a judge first and foremost. So its merits would be evident and based on secret evaluations.

Britney has clearly railed against controls on her life before and there’s no way a 27-year-old woman would ever cheer such a set-up around her life.
The conservatorship was installed to save her from herself, but I’m sure incentives/targets have been built into this set-up along the way, encouraging Britney to tow the line; that if you do this, you can have this, and if you do it this way, we will consider this down the line…and so on and so forth. But I would start questioning the conservatorship’s purpose if it is cancelled as soon as the tour is over. That would be both transparent and non-sensical.

  17. QT says:

Have I missed when britney went looney during her time off?? She went on vacation & spent time w/ her kids. Why because she went to a public bathroom & dyed her hair? Can’t function on her own. WTF? She’s was on her own for years before her breakdown. She’s also been on her own more the last few months. As for Jamie he has given up his simple life in Louisiana long before the c-ship started.

The way some of you talk about her maybe she should be commited for good.

I think this is a disgusting story that shouldn’t even be given legs. This sleaze bag said she WILL kill herself. What kind of quack Dr. says that about someone publicly they have never even treated or met? Where is the proof that this guy was even there or observed Britney? No halfway decent Dr. would give this interview w/ his name attached. If he really cared he’d be contacting the commish, not some rag.

  18. Miss P says:

How much publicity are you going to give to this Steve Dennis guy? He hasn’t even met her but you believe everything he says. He is just another guy using her situation to make himself some money!! The reason why the cship has continued for as long as it has was to do with the insurance. As reported on TMZ, the cship would’ve ended much earlier if it wasn’t for the insurance etc, so her doctors must have thought she was ok at that time. Only time will tell how Brit deals with things, but as I believe now she has her team, friends, family and children back in her life, I don’t think she will fall as some people expect her to.(she may have the slight mishap/mistake along the way, but don’t we all.)

  19. Carl says:

@Miss P – I don’t think your comments are fair, and if you’d read the book, you’d understand exactly where Steve is coming from. Regarding the insurance argument, you read it on TMZ and you know it’s true? Somehow I think I’d take months of research and close sources as more credible.

  20. pussy poppin says:

when i look at her i see another michael jackson, to me she is on that level of being mentally unwell. just because it hasn’t manifested itself via plastic surgery and pedophile charges. they are both to me so childlike and easily manipulated. they have a lot in common as far as being child stars and reaching fame at incredibly young ages and basically being the bread winners for their families. they got so big that nobody can or could tell them no. in fact it was so severe with britney not listening that her father had to go to court to force her to get help, it was that bad. conservatorships aren’t just handed out so easily there had to have been substantial proof that lead the judge to make that decision.

i don’t see how jamie micromanaging her while on tour has taught her how to deal with her life especially when not working. i just don’t think a lifetime of issues is cured in a little under two years. she’s going to need guidance for the rest of her life and i hope the judge extends the conservatorship for her safety and that of her kids. just this past january she was calling up sam and adnan, i think that is very telling.
