Funny how that saying comes up all the time when people attempt to describe Britney. There’s usually no hate, just pity.
People- including editors, authors, news anchors, celebrities and regular folk often use the term of endearment to describe being Britney.
The LA Times did a pretty slanted article on Britney’s legal fees- stating that Britney is basically being bilked for millions being handed over to her lawyers via her father (the conservatorship).
The article reads;
Yes, Jamie Spears and his attorney spent more than $10 million on the singer’s behalf over 11 months in 2008.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Over a third of the money paid out – $3.6 million – went to lawyers.
Around 17 attorneys have worked on Spears’ matters since February 2008, after she was declared unfit to manage her own affairs.
Spears has paid $168,790 to her conservator dad for his trouble, and her former husband, Kevin Federline, got $178,818 for child support for their two sons.
Poor Britney received $55,500 in spending money.
$55,000? Wow. That’s hardly enough to keep a girl in designer jeans.
Her assets have been estimated at over $100 million. But we may never know for sure because it’s all in private trusts. How convenient for those lawyers.

I think the LA Times forgot to consider how much it cost being Britney during her breakdown, when hangers on were probably robbing her blind not to mention how much legal drama she caused with her inability to work, perform, promote or generally carry on a conversation.
Sure, its cost a lot to clean up Britney’s mess, but without her father, she’d be broke by now, or dead. No tours, no kids and every Tom, dick and paparazzo taking advantage of her.
Nobody said it was going to be easy to bring her back from the brink. To tidy up her legal issues involving her kids. To rebuild an empire almost deconstructed – and to continue to give her the highest level of care and protection.
There was no alternative. You can try and cut down her father for spending what must be spent, but I guess those people would rather have the British talking, gas station hopping, head shaving, two time mental patient, paparazzo dating, childless, no career, sad, miserable Britney.

wow just came back from the britney concert and its 12.30 here in London – it was so surreal seeing britney close up – she looks exactly like she does on tv – apart from her extensions being very bad – the show was amazing but i got bored afterwards cos i watched all her concerts on youtube and everything was the same in a sense that and all my expectations were fulfilled – nothing too special – like when you go to a hotel and you get everything you expect a hotel should have – if the hotel had a sauna then there’s something special about it – i felt that Britney was good but something was missing – i dont know what it is – something was just not right – i’m happy that i went and it was so surreal seeing her but lots of people started to leave early cos the trains were being bitches with their strikes – thank god that would be over – she interacted with the audience a little saying it was her friends birthday and happy bday and started singing everytime live – she has an ok voice – sooo many ppl turned up but left half way not cos of her cos of the bloody trains – i was lucky cos my dad came to pick me up! Good on u britney – stay happy and keep smiling!
u said it yourself there WAS no other option but now that shes able to work her butt off she must be able take it from here and let her dad – who receives more than triple the amount she gets to keep from this conservatorship for taking care of his own daughter – go.
@7, I don’t think its that easy to reverse a conservatorship. It’s a lot of paperwork plus the fact that she is still under it, tells me that the medical experts behind the scenes are still seeing a need.
Remember this. She still isn’t conducting interviews that are filmed, she still barely speaks. Everything is put out by the camp in writing and look how she freaked out w/the fan on the stage. She is still getting better.

I dont think her dad is exploiting her at all. She begged to go on tour and it seems to be helping her heal.

WTF is wrong with people?? She had EVERY RIGHT to freak put when some strange drunk fool jumped in her face. There are so many evil loons out there, she had know idea if he wanted to harm her or not. Plus that happened right after that weirdo “fan” broke into her property.
i never said hes forcing her to tour which is impossible im just saying that theres a difference between happy and content shes ok with it but i dont think its right shes works her ass off and he takes her 3 times as much as she permitted to keep from her own hard earned money just for helping her out?! its his freakin daughter for cryin out loud if that aint exploit then i duno what is
@7 he does have bills to pay though and he has no life now outside of her. He was a prof. chef making 6 figures and can no longer earn a living that way. We have to keep that in mind. He personally is living every second of his life watching her.
Wait is it a fact that shes only gets 55,000?? Or is this from just some news article? And im sure that Britney gets everything she needs and im sure the 55,000 doesnt include her vacations and stuff she buys for the boys etc. Maybe thats just spending cash. People need to realize things just arent black or white – theres a huge section of Gray that everyone falls into at some point. No one will ever know what trully happened or what is going on now. Its all speculation , tipped in either direction based on peoples view. And if her dad was railroading her wouldnt he be taking so much more money then he is?! Hello! Lets get new totals next year at this time for her attorneys and staff etc Im sure it will be no where near what she has spent in the past year. They are still playing catch u from her downfall.

Right now you’re both just filling in information to make sense of it all. But I think we can all agree that Britney is in a better state than she was in during the “Blackout” era, but this is NOT the best she can be, she’s getting there though!
I guess all we can do is trust our legal system, her management, doctors, and her friends and family.
Britney probably has a hard time trusting all of them, but hey it’s better than her trusting Osama bin Lutfi.
@ribbontie. You’re right. She is “getting there” but the only way to know for sure if she’s ever going to be a 100% the old Britney we knew and loved is to continue treatment, avoid pitfalls, and do what makes her happy and I think touring does that b/c it gives her a routine and meaning. A bored Britney is the worst thing possible.
I think that a bit of diplomacy is needed when considering Britneys life for the past 3 years.
Her life was sprialling out of control after hger divorce and continued to hit rock bottom when she was taken to hospital. She had let all the wrong people in her life, made drastically wrong decisions and lost everything that seemed to be dear to her before; her children, family and career.
Then her father stepped in and took the reigns and literally pulled the waggon of crazy to a hault. It does slightly annoy me how people think a father or mother would instantly exploit their children, I’m sure Jamie has an unlimited amount of love for Britney like any father. Why would he want to exploit her. It was worked out that she spent around 60 million dollars during her breakdown, which is considerably more than is being spent on her behalf at the moment. If people are taking issue with the spending then they should take it to her lawyers, whose fees seem astronomical.
The only issue I have is her fathers and kevins “fees”. Her father is getting paid a lot of money to look after his daughter, more than three times more than his salary from his last job. Having said this it is a 24 hour job, he literally speaks on her behalf, legally speaking, and Britney has a lot of “legal talking” to do.
With Kevin; I thought during her first recovery period when she was granted visitation rights he was being incredibly generous. HOWEVER, the fact that he has made little effort to get any form of credible job (we all know if he brings out another album he’ll make pennies) and it getting paid MORE “child support” which inturn gains Britney more time with the children than he does, it makes no sense. He isn’t being paid child support if he doesn’t have the children, he is basically being paid to give the children to Britney, which I think speaks vollumes of his character!!

I cant explain why they’re paying her dad what they are, but one writer I spoke to who has written on her quite a bit said her dad literally has no life and that we cant possibly know what he deals with behind the scene and if it were anybody but her dad, they’d be getting millions to take care of her, yet he’s making about 160k a year I think. I think thats fair. I bet you the stress of running it all is unbelievable and the man still has bills, rent, food, etc. He doesn’t live with her.

@ poorbritney – yes maybe that and lack of interaction with the audience – she did her best but 10 years ago she was amazing – guess time changes! She just appeared like she wanted to get up there – do her stuff and leave! I had vip tickets for really cheap cos it wasn’t selling so well thanks to the tube strike – so i was very close to the stage and felt no passion – she was smiling and dancing and walking ALOT around on stage – she had fun but ciara? OMG that was a plain porn show – touching herself and stuff – i felt uncomfortable and i wanted to slap my bf for being into it soo much then when britney came up – britney looked beautiful – i hope she does well!
@sara. This is exactly what I’ve been saying for two years. She isnt better yet. She is getting there, but people think getting over 2 breakdowns is so easy and its not. Im sure she loves doing what she does but you cant hide a persons soul and she is still gathering hers together.
Im sure she adores her fans, loves to work and does her best, but she also just wants to be a mom and wife. Perhaps passion is a little lost in translation b/c she is still finding herself.
Yh U saw her yesterday and felt something was missing. Like how she ended with a sudden quick goodbye and strolled off the stage after some quick bows. I\’ve wanted to see her for almost 11 yrs no joke in cocnert, and I always saw her on TV smiling and really engaging with the audience having fun. And she looked like she was havign fun, but not in the same way, I guess her rbeak down and others tresses which have evolved from that affected her. Still it was a great show, awesome in fact, what a perfomance, I was not disappointed I want to go back again in fact, I want to take it in better since it was so surreal for me. I hardly believed it was really her first of all, in the same room (well huge hall). I wish I could have sat closer n seen her face to see if she really was enjoying herself or not. I love Britney.

People seem to have forgotten that this woman has suffered a very public breakdown. She has had to deal with all her medical/health problems, breakdown of her marriage/divorce, loosing custody of her children and being hounded like a dog in the media! It will take years for her to fully recover from all of this. Touring is a way for her to gain back her self belief, confidence and self worth (one step at a time.) I believe the cship will end once the tour is over by the end of the year. The cship has been beneficial in helping her gain access to her kids, keeping the leeches at bay, dealing with all those court cases and tax issues etc. If you had to pay someone to deal with all of her problems, it would be a hell of alot more than what the court is paying Jamie Spears.(A man who gave up his career and life to look after his daughter’s.)The reason why these magazine and websites blow everything out of proportion is to create drama, hence sell more magazines and create more hits on the web. As Britney seems to be getting her life back on track, these people are clutching at straws!!

Every single penny that is spent is accounted for and has to be presented to court, so nobody at this moment in time is able to rip her off. Everything from her Christmas lights, to massages and dog grooming etc was all noted down in the court documents, so nothing is being hidden. All the documents are available for everyone to view themselves, so we can all see where the money went/is going! Anything that looks out of place will be identified by the courts.
@ Miss P. Excellent comments. She is not being robbed blind as some want to claim. Her family is doing what it takes to get her better and organize her life. What is so hard to understand bout that? Why people want to claim otherwise is to create doubt, so hopefully they can get her back out in the streets for their entertainment.

She isn’t better yet, people don’t realize that this will be a lifetime struggle for her. There will be ups and downs, it isn’t just smooth sailing from now on especially after the c-ship ends. How i wish it were that easy.
I think thats why Peepaw loves Jason so much if they are in fact dating, he sees somebody who can take care of his little girl and that is probably a relief to him because he’s not going to live forever and the c-ship will not last forever.
