The California Chronicle wrote an interesting article, which begs to ask ‘Why are we so fascinated with Britney Spears”. The article claims she cant sing, she cant act and her dance moves are, ehh- so-so, so why is everybody so interested in her. Obviously the writer does not know the power of Britney.
From the article; Never in the history of pop music has anyone achieved so much with so little talent as Britney Spears. That’s a big claim, isn’t it? Five of her six studio albums have climbed to No. 1 (the other peaked at No. 2). Seven of her singles have landed in the Top 10. She’s sold 32 million albums in the United States alone. Those are amazing accomplishments for someone who can’t sing without the help of gadgetry. (I attended a rehearsal for the 2000 Grammys, and the show’s audio engineer declared her live singing “unusable.”)
She’s not much of a songwriter, either. When she writes, it’s always in collaboration with a team of professional tunesmiths. And she doesn’t play an instrument _ at least not onstage.
She can’t act. Did you see “Crossroads”?
As a Mickey Mouse Club-trained dancer, she can execute the simple moves of a choreographer, but no one is going to mistake her for Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul or even one of the Pussycat Dolls.
In a 2008 cover story titled “Inside an American Tragedy,” Rolling Stone said: “She is an in-bred swamp thing who chain smokes, doesn’t do her nails, tells reporters to eat it, snort it, lick it and bleep it, and screams at people who want pictures for their little sisters.”
All that bad baggage makes the fact that she lip-syncs for entire concerts seem as insignificant as a parking ticket for Bernie Madoff.
So what’s Britney Spears’ biggest talent? Being a celebrity.
She can act and she’s very funny. People connect with her because she’s real.
I was never a huge fan of hers until the breakdown and all that crazy activity in 07. Somehow she sucked me in and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. That’s why I started this blog.
It was the same way I felt about Princess Di. I could not stop thinking about her and how sad and broken she seemed. Britney does that same thing to me. I often hold my breath hoping nothing tragic becomes her. Everybody seems to feel the same way, and while many think she has no talent, they’re still drawn to her. She’s like an injured doe. You just want to scoop her up and make life better for her. No other celebrity has that affect on me.
It doesn’t hurt that I love her music. I’m not saying she’s a great live singer. I know better, but somehow I don’t care. I feel comfort when I get in my car to do errands and I know dollface and her lil Circus are in there waiting for me and ready to comfort me all the way to Rite-Aid.
It’s like a reader here said to me and I feel the same way. She could stand on stage and chomp tomatoes and I’d still be fascinated by her.

they basically equate her to paris hilton.
her dance moves might not be that great now but she was definitely a good dancer before she fell apart.
God how I hate Paris Hilton. She has none of Britney’s charm.
I’m really a lot like you, never REALLY cared about her, until her breakdown.
But I think she has more talent then say Paris Hilton. I mean this is really what the article is trying to say … she’s like Paris Hilton or Nicole Richie or Kim Kardashian … and that I disagree with!
At one point she did have vocal talent MMC, Star Search, and she got signed to Jive because of that talent. I have no idea where that went though? I still wonder if she has it or not? I’m assuming she lost it when she was in her 20′s though. But either way I like it when SHE sings a song .. however engineered it may be.
She used to be able to dance as well. With routines I’d say just as good as Janet or Paula Abdul. I loved watching her dance! I guess she lost her confidence? Because even in the Onyx Hotel Tour it was still top notch. But idk I haven’t been to a Circus concert, and haven’t seen any good quality videos to really make an objective decision.
I think she has decent writing abilities … her stream of consciousness she used to post were amazing. Everytime .. Let Go.. Someday .. but the article is right, I’m not exactly sure how much she writes specifically.
Oh and she does play the piano, but not on stage… except for everytime
And finally her acting. This is me being stupid, but I LOVE her acting. LOL I thought she was so cute in How I Met Your Mother, Will & Grace, and Crossroads is sweet! Haha I won’t admit this anywhere else. Plus she does have a mean British accent!
Anyways I don’t think she has a specific talent that she is simply amazing at, but she’s definitely more than a celebrity in my eyes.
I still find her talented and amazing, I do!
The sad thing is I could care less about her talent. To me, her talent is being Britney. The sad fragile broken little girl who captures America for some reason.
I have never even given one thought to her having any musical talent because her cd’s (albeit mixed and manipulated) blow me away. I cant tell you the feelings I get when I hear her sad little voice singing IUSA or Out from Under. I cant describe it. It’s like having a loved one sing to me. She just moves me with such deep pity.
Oh, and I loved her in How I met Your Mother. Again, its the pity thing. I felt like she was so mentally messed up that I was so proud of her for being able to even remember her lines.
Haha but she DIDN’T remember her lines …remember this interview?
What was your favorite off-screen moment with Britney on
How I Met Your Mother?
“She was very embarrassed when she flubbed up on her lines, you know, everyone does. I do, as well. She’d hop into her accent, [it] would come up real strong and she’d go, ‘Oh gosh yall, I’m sorry, yall.’ Then she’d hop back into character again, which is kind of funny.” – Neil Patrick Harris
So cute.
IF SHE DID NOT HAVE TALENT THEN WHY IS SHE SO SUCCESSFUL?
1 BECAUSE SHE IS HOT
2 BECAUSE SHE BRINGS OUT GOOD MUSIC
3 SHE CAN SING LOOK BACK ON HER EARLY DAYS
4 JUST SHE IS FUCKING BRITNEY SPEARS
Okay, I went to the Circus concert.
How can she sing live when she’s running around & dancing. Yeah, she would SUCK live cause she’d be so out of breath. I don’t think people get that. And she did ACTUALLY sing LIVE “Everytime” & it was beautiful.
The concert was AMAZING. She’s my favorite performer. (but I will agree.. not as good as she used to be.) I can’t explain to you the feeling I had when she came out on stage.. you just can’t believe she’s a real person.. ha.
I think the remarks of the audio engineer back in 2000 should be taken in context – she was trying to sing and dance REALLY energetically at the same time. NOBODY has ever managed to do that, they just give the illusion that they do. Which is probably why she began to lip-synch in the first place.
However! Just about every producer she has ever worked with has said what an excellent singer she is in the studio. Fast, professional, nails it every time.
